Big Lake is located 40 miles northwest of Minneapolis. Total population is around 6,000 people. The City has a total area of 4.4 square miles with 0.8 square miles of water.
Big Lake is part of the 51 mile Northstar Commuter Rail set to open November 16th. The Big Lake park and ride lot will have 466 spaces available for commuters. The trip from Big Lake to downtown Minneapolis will take 45 minutes. Other stops along the Northstar line include Elk River, Anoka, Coon Rapids, Fridley and Target Field. At some point they hope to expand the line all the way to St. Cloud.
There are two elementary schools a middle and a senior high school in Big Lake.
Year to date through August Big Lake has had 220 closed sales; this is up 12.8% from last year numbers. The median sale price is down 10.4% to $135,300, the average sale price is down 9.1% to $143,194 and the average days on market is down 12.7% to 148 days on market.
Year to date through August the Twin Cities as a whole has had 29,105 closed sales; this is up 13.5% from last year. The median sale price is down 18.5% to $167,000, the average sale price is down 19.2% to $197,930 and average days on market for the Twin Cities has held steady year to year at 143 days.
